Seaware Routing is the backbone of the Seaware Onboard product line owing to its fundamental, yet rich, set of features. Based on graphical weather presentation, many advanced route planning tasks may be accomplished.

New weather forecasts may be subscribed to for delivery at desired intervals, with selectable resolution, area and time range. Based on the weather forecasts, the ship’s speed reduction, fuel consumption and ETA along an intended route may be predicted. Several different route alternatives may be evaluated for comparison side-by-side, either graphically on the chart or numerically in various tables. An even more powerful tool is the route optimization, by which a route can be optimized considering user-defined constraints such as lowest total cost or avoiding bad weather.

A GPS connection lets an operator or agent easily be notified of the ship’s current situation through email based reports.

What's new in version 5?

Easier to get started

New guides, wizards and tutorials to help getting started more easily.

Improved ship performance model

The performance model has been further refined, among other things by inclusion of a ‘virtual rpm regulator’ emulating the real-world engine control system.

Improved cost based ship route optimization

Version 5 has been developed with special attention to optimization of short sea passages, along with general improvements in accuracy.

New weather presentation

All weather graphics are fully configurable allowing the exact presentation of choice, including multi-colored contours. Contour presentation of ocean currents was added for easier identification of strong currents.

Compressed weather forecasts

Forecasts are delivered in compressed files (CWU) to simplify user administration and to lower communication costs. You may now use double-click or "drag and drop" to open new forecasts.

More options for acquiring weather forecasts

  • Support for sharing another user's POP3 account using built-in e-mail client.
  • Support for MAPI, i.e. using the standard e-mail program from Routing.

Improved Slave mode

Slave installations may be setup to receive copies of new weather forecasts as soon as they arrive.

Route track and waypoint managing

New functions added for route track and waypoint management, such as reverse route and open multiple waypoints.

New tool buttons

More tool buttons added for quicker interaction with the chart.

System requirements

Minimum system requirements

  • 1 GHz processor or faster
  • 1 GB RAM recommended (depending on operating system, see below)
  • 250 MB free hard disk space
  • 19" display (minimum resolution 1280 x 1024 or if widescreen 1680 x 1250) recommended
  • Optionally one free PC COM port for GPS connection according to NMEA 0183 version 2.00

Either of the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7 (2 GB RAM recommended)
  • Windows Vista (2 GB RAM recommended)
  • Windows XP
  • Windows 2000

In order to use the automatic communication mode, the following is required:

  • Network adapter with TCP/IP protocol
  • Connection to either an e-mail server (POP3/SMTP) or a functional e-mail client installed on the same machine (using MAPI communication)
To use automatic mode using MAPI the following operating systems (upgrades) are strongly recommended:
  • Windows 7

  • Windows XP, SP2
  • Windows 2000, SP4

The program has been working perfectly well. It is highly user-friendly and an excellent aid in our route planning.

I have been using the program virtually every day during my watches on board since September 2003.
