By adding more advanced route planning features to Routing, EnRoute is the intermediate member of the Seaware Onboard product line. In addition to the basic ship performance calculations offered in Routing, i.e. speed reduction and fuel consumption, EnRoute predicts the dynamic response of the ship in terms of rigid body motions, accelerations, effective heel, hull girder loads and dynamic stability phenomena, such as parametric rolling.

When planning and evaluating a route, EnRoute will also predict the dynamic behavior of the ship based on the underlying weather forecast. Each dynamic response type has been assigned some limit value, and for each segment of the route where such limits are exceeded EnRoute will display a warning, thus alerting the bridge officers of potential hazards to the ship and cargo. Furthermore, for the segments of a route where limits are exceeded, the program offers a seakeeping advice facility which displays the result of alternate speed and headings.

Naturally, the route optimization feature may be set to avoid exceeding the ship’s dynamic limits.

Ship configuration data

Since the EnRoute products uses a built-in mathematical seakeeping model to predict the dynamic response of the ship in waves, each license includes a ship package that holds ship specific data. This includes for example a detailed description of the hull geometry. The following data is required in order to produce a ship package:

  • Hull lines (e.g. digital offset file or lines drawing)
  • General arrangment plan
  • Trim and stability book
  • General data on machinery and propulsion
